Picking accounts for a significant portion of warehouse operating costs. Therefore, choosing and configuring the right picking strategy is crucial. Manhattan WMS supports multiple strategies, including Batch Picking, Cluster Picking, Zone Picking, and system-directed Task Assignment.

Batch picking groups items from multiple orders together, reducing travel time for operators. Cluster picking allows an operator to pick multiple orders simultaneously into separate compartments on a cart. Zone picking splits an order across different areas, with items consolidated later at a packing station.

Candidates must be able to explain when to recommend each strategy. For example, batch picking is ideal for high-volume, single-line orders, while zone picking works best for large, complex multi-line orders. Connecting picking strategies to throughput goals showcases your expertise.
